If It’s Humanly Possible, You Can Do It Too

“You have power over your mind – not outside events. Realize this, and you will find strength.” — Marcus Aurelius

“I have power over myself, even though my mind tells me otherwise.” I had to tell this to myself repeatedly. When you are in darkness (brain fog, fear, restlessness, or an inability to concentrate), you can not focus, or accomplish anything. You realize how unspecial you are, and finally have enough of so much dysfunctionality. You simply want it to end.

Then a moment comes in which you make a vow (a decision) that you will overcome everything that holds you back. Your fierce motivation drives you to push yourself forward through the emotional storms that your mind creates. You endure a lot of pain on this journey. But for some reason, you are okay with that — the misery you go through no longer bothers you.

Even better, you tell yourself that the pain you have to face is necessary because it makes you stronger and more resilient. You notice you constantly develop an increased capacity to tolerate the pain. Throughout history and from various authors, we see many examples of how difficult it is to conquer yourself.

But that’s the noblest goal in life — no matter how long it takes to transcend your ego, the payoff is much greater than the agony you must go through in order to achieve your objective.
